Becoming the "Wings of Okinawa"
Our Aspirations

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our valued customers and supporters of Japan Transocean Air (hereinafter referred to as JTA).

JTA was established in 1967 as "Nansei Airlines*". The company was a joint venture between Japan Airlines and local Okinawan companies to connect the islands of Okinawa Prefecture, which was still under U.S. military administration at the time.

In the company's early days, we operated three small-propeller aircraft - two 40-seat CV-240s (Convair) and a 9-seat H-18 (Beechcraft) - on six routes within Okinawa, connecting Naha with Miyako, Ishigaki, Kume Island, and Minami-Daito, as well as Ishigaki with Miyako and Yonaguni. As Okinawa developed into a tourist destination, we expanded our network to destinations outside the prefecture, and in 1993, we rebranded the company to "Japan Transocean Air". Today, we operate 16 routes, with 3 within Okinawa and 13 outside, using a fleet of 14 Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 165 seats each. Having walked alongside the history of Okinawa through various changes, this year, we celebrate our 56th anniversary. This has been made possible by the warm support and patronage of our customers, for which we are deeply grateful.

*"Nansei" is Japanese for "Southwest".

Providing Safety and Assurance

Safe aircraft operations are the culmination of the wisdom and skills of our predecessors. We must understand and build upon their efforts, knowledge, experience, and systems. Our employees will proactively learn from and incorporate the invaluable knowledge and expertise accumulated by those before us, and as aviation professionals, will steadfastly prioritize unwavering safety and reliable operations, guided by a strong sense of mission and responsibility.

Furthermore, we will deliver to our customers a clean, comfortable, and reassuring air travel experience.

Combining the refined quality of the JAL Group with the unique value of Okinawa, we aim to provide the highest level of service, ensuring that we remain the airline of choice, continuously meeting the needs of our customers.

Wings of Okinawa - Contributing to the Islands

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about various changes in everyone's values, lifestyles, and ways of working.

While much of the most recent change has been forced by the pandemic, there has also been dramatic technological advancement, which will continue to evolve and shape the evolving needs of people.

We do not simply intend to adapt to these changes passively, but proactively drive positive transformation.

At the same time, there are elements that we must preserve and pass on to future generations. For example, the diverse natural environment of Okinawa, including the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Yanbaru and Iriomote Island, as well as the enduring appeal of its culture and people, are treasures that must be protected. We believe that the value of authentic, immersive travel that provides a sense of healing and empowerment will continue to grow. We are committed to working together with the local community to ensure that these cherished assets are passed down to those who come after us.

Driven by a strong resolve and a sense of purpose, all our employees will work with vitality, serving our loyal customers and the local community that has nurtured our growth. We will remain needed and valued, both as individuals and as a company, and to be of service to the local community and society.

We would be grateful your continued patronage and support of Japan Transocean Air going forward.
